In this study, it was aimed to determine the harmful and useful mite species in the apple orchards in the Center, Gevaş, Edremit and Erciş of Van and the Ahlat and Adilcevaz of Bitlis province in 2002–2003. Surveys were done to determine the mite species in 67 apple orchards in the around Van lake. In the results surveys, 17 mite species were found in the region. The seven pest mite species were determined to be members of Tetranychidae (5 species), Eriophyidae (1 species), Tenuilpalpidae (1 species) families. Amphitetranychus vienensis (Zacher) (Acarina: Tetranychidae) is the most important pest mite species in the region. Tetranychus urticae Koch, Panonychus ulmi Koch, Bryobia rubrioculus Scheuten (Tetranychidae) and Aculus schlechtendali (Nalepa) (Eriophyidae) are the other important pest mite species. Also 10 predaceous species were found in the region. Phytoseiidae family is the most important predaceous group with 6 species. In addition, 3 species from Stigmaeidae and 1 species from Tydeidae were found in the region. Kampimodromus aberrans (Oudemans) and Euseius finlandicus (Oudemans) from Phytoseiidae family and Zetzellia mali (Ewing) from Stigmaeidae familya re the most common predaceous mite species in the apple orchards of Around Van Lake.
